F.A.Q.

Q: How much internet bandwidth do I need for the Nuvimedix Remote Clinic Station?

A: The HD videoconferencing portion of the Remote Clinic Station only needs about 1Mb/s. The better the quality of the line, the better the picture. The computer with the Nuvimedix application needs about 100K/s. A good T-1 installation will give superb results.

Q: If I have more than one Remote Clinic Station, do I need more than one Practitioner's Station?

A: If you have one or more healthcare providers located in a common facility which will handle the patient encounters from the different locations, one will suffice. If the healthcare providers are geographically separated, then you will need at least one at each location. The cost benefits and savings of not having to travel to the location will soon be evident. Also, the healthcare providers can cover for each other or consult with one another.

Q: Why did Nuvimedix select those diagnostic devices for the Remote Clinic Station?

A: Nuvimedix's system includes devices that are specific to a Telemedicine application. Our focus is to provide a complete suite of diagnostic tools that can work for the doctor and can make up for the fact that they are not present with the patient. Our software application is modular, and we can add new devices and incorporate those diagnoses into our EMR.

Q: What makes the use of those diagnostic devices any different from a regular examining room?

A: The Nuvimedix's practitioner's station now includes a system that allows the doctor to enter notes and codes and review any past history on the patient WHILE THE ENCOUNTER IS TAKING PLACE. This is a true multi-tasking arrangement. The combination of this and the high-definition lifelike encounter allows the doctor to see or hear the diagnostic test that is taking place IN REAL TIME AS WELL AS VIEWING THE PATIENT, LIVE. The electronic stethoscope can be heard at the Practitioner's station LIVE and recorded through high-fidelity headphones.

Q: You use many Welch Allyn devices. Why did you not use Welch Allyn's 12-lead ECG?

A: Welch Allyn products are excellent. We switched from using the Welch Allyn ECG to the PhysioGlove because it is much easier to set up and use and the results are as good as or better that the ones obtained from the WA product. In less than 2 minutes, a reading can be taken and a 'strip' recorded and the patient can be sitting in a chair. It's feasible for this and other diagnosis and interaction with the patient to occur well within the 15-20 minute consult window.

Q: If the Nuvimedix system doesn't have a component that I need (such as online claims), how can I get that in my Nuvimedix system?

A: We will partner with companies that have a strength that complements the Nuvimedix system and implement external programs for that purpose.

Q: What if I like my existing EMR system but I want to use the Nuvimedix system in a remote clinic?

A: We have created a simple EMR based on an advanced version of Oracle Database that will allow us to change and add features to our 'core' as we implement them without having to do any re-writes. These include image files of any size, audio files from the Stethoscope, and traces from ECG or other similar devices. The Nuvimedix software was developed following industry standards such as H-7 that allows for the exchange of information between EMR systems. We can customize the Nuvimedix system to work with your existing EMR.

Q: Can't I use my existing EMR system for Telemedicine just by adding some 'connected' devices?

A: Adding 'connected' devices to an EMR doesn't make for a complete Telemedicine solution. Nuvimedix's system includes devices that are specific to a Telemedicine application. Our focus is to provide a complete suite of diagnostic tools that can work for the doctor and can make up for the fact that they are not present with the patient.
